Teaching Vs Conditioning.


Teaching is a purposeful process that helps to bring the necessary changes in student’s behaviors, improves the skills, knowledge and competencies that makes him a better person to lead an effective social life. The teachers also known as educators who instruct the learners and helps them to develop understanding, competencies and critical thinking.

Teaching is fundamental process of imparting the knowledge and values to learners aims at developing the personal and learning abilities that help them to gain deeper understanding of various subjects. The teacher provides information to the learners in structured manner that catering the specific needs of students.

 The teaching have four modalities
1) Conditioning
2) Training
3) Instruction
4) Indoctrination

1)Conditioning(Shaping of behaviour)
Conditioning in teaching often referred to classroom conditioning. It is a process of changing the behavior of learners through repetitive training and reinforcements. It is based on stimulus response pattern which we can seen in children and animals. Behaviour is shaped by consistent rewards punishments. Conditioning it is technique used under low level of teaching. Ex: A cat may conditioned when his owner called him by his name.

Conditioning is in two types:
1) Classical Conditioning: It is a type of learning introduced by Ivan pavlov. It involves association of a neutral stimulus with unconditional stimulus to create a learner response. This Conditioning occurs when two stimuli are repeated paired.

2) Operand conditioning: This type of learning is developed by B.F skinner, occurrence of response is depends upon type of reinforcement involved. It may be positive reinforcement through rewards to increase a behavior or negative reinforcement through punishments to decrease a behavior.

2) Training(Shaping of conduct)
Training is a process of acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge, values which helps to improve their performance. Training can be takes place in various contexts such as in work place, educational institutions and other fields. It can be practical in nature by providing real time experience prepare the individuals to become effective educators.

Training can be formal and informal in nature. Formal training can be seen in job training and classroom education and informal  like learning new skills and hobbies. Training aims to improve one's capabilities and knowledge in specific field.

Training in education typically focuses on practical skills and may be associated with vocational or technical education, professional development, or specialized courses designed to prepare students for specific careers or industries. It's distinct from general education, which focuses on a broader range of knowledge and critical thinking skills.

3) Instruction
In the context of teaching instructions refers to set of the guidance provided to learners which enhancing knowledge, skills and competencies of the learners. Instructions are typically written or spoken directions that help individuals understand what needs to be done. Instructions relates with higher level of teaching.

4) Indoctrination
Indoctrination is the process of teaching or instructing individuals in a set of beliefs, ideas, or ideologies, often with a strong bias or agenda. It typically involves promoting a particular point of view while discouraging critical thinking or the consideration of alternative perspectives. 

Indoctrination can occur in various contexts, such as religious, political, or educational settings, and it's often associated with an attempt to influence and shape the beliefs or values of individuals, sometimes to the exclusion of other viewpoints. The term is frequently used in a negative sense when referring to one-sided or manipulative forms of instruction.
