Meaning of Teaching
Teaching is a nobal profession that of shaping the behavior and conduct of the students by providing essential knowledge, skills and competencies which makes him better person in society. Teaching it maybe formal or informal in nature. Formal Teaching can takes place in education institutions, schools, colleges or in Universities and what we can learn in our daily life it is the part of informal teaching. It can be
BIPOLAR TEACHING
Bipolar method of teaching involve two variables i.e Teacher and Student, The teacher is independent variable and student is dependent variable. The traditional methods of teaching were used in this method which made the teaching process narrow.
TRIPOLAR TEACHING
This method is introduced by john Dewey. As a name suggests it includes three variables i.e Teacher student and environment. The environment environment helps to students and teacher to interact easily during learning- teaching process.

The Important factors involved in teaching
1)TEACHER
Teacher is a knowledgeable person who helps to moulding the students behaviours and conducts by providing the important resources to them. Teacher is an independent variable who influence on students.
2)STUDENT
Students are dependent variables who depend on teacher or resource person to acquire the knowledge. 
3)ENVIRONMENT
This is the teaching environment which helps the teacher and student to interact with each other in classroom.

Nature  of teaching

1)Teaching is very complex process.

2) Teaching is an effective aid that mould the students by providing the important values and resources to students

3)Teaching helps in shaping the behavior and conduct of students

 4)Teaching can provide a better social life.

5)Teaching can be takes place in formal or informal mode,that helps to learn and acquire of knowledge in day-to-day life.

6)Teaching is from known to unknown.

7)Teaching helps in intellectual development of a personality.

 

Traditional concept of teaching
The traditional concept of teaching was done by using various conventional methods which has been used for so many years. Example teaching was done by using chalk and black board. It is a teacher centered approach  where the teacher teach the students in classroom and pupils just follow the instructions of teacher.  

Modern concept of teaching
The scope of traditional methods of teaching are very narrow and under this method intellectual development of students is not possible due to these drawbacks modern concept of teaching is introduced. It adress the changing needs of students of this advance world, it is a student centered approach which emphasis critical thinking and practical application of knowledge.

Levels of Teaching
There are three levels of Teaching
 i) Memory level of teaching
ii) Understanding level of teaching 
iii) Reflective level of teaching 

1) Memory level of teaching

  • Memory level of teaching is given by John F herbart.
  • It is thought less level of teaching
  • It is relates with memory or mental ability of students.
  • Thinking abilities does not matter here since it is depends upon rote  memorization
  • Memory level of teaching it involves rote memorization and recall of facts.
  • Memory level of teaching is foundational level for understanding and reflective levels.
  • Teacher centered approach, here teacher plays dominating role. Role of students is passive.

2) Understanding level of teaching

  • Understanding level of teaching is given by Morrison.
  • It includes memory plus insight.
  • It is thoughtful level of teaching.
  • It is teacher plus students centered approach.
  • The teaching at understanding level is of higher quality than memory level teaching.

3) Reflective level of teaching

  • It is given by Hunt
  • It is highest level of teaching so it is called most thoughtful level of teaching
  • It helps to students to solve the real life problems.
  • A student can attain this level only after going through memory and understanding level.
  • Problem centered approach
  • Role of students is active
TYPES OF LEARNER
1)Adolescent learner
2)Adult learner

 As per World health organization the person who falls between the age of 10 to 19, they called adolescent learner. Their characteristics can be Academic, social, emotional and cognitive in nature.

1)ACADEMIC CHARACTERISTICS
Academic characteristics are learning or educational related in nature, such as education type, education background of the learner, mood of education, cognitive abilities and learners’ knowledge etc. Adolescent learners always ready to seek new knowledge and are more active than adult learners.

2)SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Learner acquires the awareness of social life; he tries to get his own social recognitions and develops himself internally. Adolescent always believe the myths, desire to take decision as per their own choice.

3)EMOTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Adolescent learner is always attached to emotional feelings. i.e.  rapid changes in mood, feelings, perception, relationship etc.

4)COGNITIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Cognitive factors relating to mental and intellectual behavior, attention span, symbolization etc. which helps the learner to remember the things, perceives knowledge and solve the different problems. Here learner moves towards concrete to abstract, they always ready to take challenges for high achievement

ADULT LEARNER
Learning is a continuous process. It has no any specific boundaries and restriction of age, as it is life time process  that make an adult to be learn the adult learners are more matured students, they may decide  themselves about the learning areas, concept of andragogy is applying to adult because they are self-directed and independent in nature. Adult learners may learn formally or informal way. Their characteristics as follows.

1)Academic characteristics
Adult learners are more matured person having in depth knowledge of each and every subjects. Adults have their own identity and self respect in society so teacher must treat them equally with respect. Adults are always result and practical oriented

2)Social characteristics
As an adult they have their own social bondage, and community, they have huge responsibilities towards family, friends, work etc. they have to manage every thing in proper way. Many adults prefer a learning with whom they can interact and discuss.

3)Emotional characteristics
An adult may be influenced by anger, pressure, stress and anxieties etc. these emotions can interfere with learning process.

4)Cognitive characteristics
In the journey from childhood to adulthood people experienced lot of things they gain knowledge  and practical experiences. When the person getting old the ability of remember the things also reduced  and he feels difficulty to remember the things.
